Outdoor Education built by POC for POC
In the Spring of 2022, I launched the first iteration of this program with Dr. Jennifer Hunter at Hastings Natural History Reservation. The focus of P.E.N. is to create meaningful activities revolving around ecology to stimulate interest in the natural sciences for the respective communities. Our first iteration of PEN is built for the youth in Cachagua in Carmel Valley, California and will take place from May 28th - May31st. We hope to continue to receive funding to make this annual as well as expand the program to the East Bay.
We have three primary instructors: (1) wildlife ecology, (2) ornithology, and (3) plant ecology/archeology. Each instructor will engage participants in activities respective to their fields, including camera-trapping and bird-walks.
This iteration, we will cap hosting capacity at 21 students. We hope to expand this program to hold more participants!
